Why BedJet is Better Than a Bed AC

Posted by Sarah McClutchy on

Sometimes the BedJet is inaccurately described as “an air conditioner for your bed”. We’re here to clear the air on that—literally and figuratively!—and explain why the BedJet is not a bed AC, a portable air conditioning unit or an air conditioned mattress. Depending on your bedroom and sleeping environment, the BedJet can be a better, more practical solution to hot sleep than adding additional air conditioning units to your home.

Here's How Bed Jet Works to Keep You Cool in Bed

The BedJet is a totally air-based system. It uses the convective & evaporative methods of cooling, which are extremely effective for keeping you cool in bed if your bedroom temperature is 79 degrees and under.

It’s designed to get rid of the main reason you’re feeling hot and stuffy in bed: body heat and moisture. You can sweat up to a liter every night without realizing—and your mattress and sheets trap that heat and moisture in! Our engineers have measured up to a 20% humidity rise trapped under the sheets.

BedJet’s convective air circulation quickly gets body heat and body moisture out of your bed. We’ve found it to be the most effective way to keep cool in bed in bedrooms under 79°F. The cooling is felt nearly instantly under the sheets.

Finding you sleep hot on that new memory foam mattress? BedJet is the perfect solution for removing trapped body heat absorbed by memory foam. Do you need to keep your side of the bed a bit cooler than your partner’s side? BedJet plus a Dual Zone Cloud Sheet is excellent for that. Are you struggling with a thermoregulation issue that causes night sweats? BedJet is a clinically proven solution.

BedJet is Quieter than a Bed Air Conditioner

If you’re like many people and are very sensitive to noises while you sleep, then installing an extra air conditioner right next to your bed might solve one sleep problem while creating another one. The BedJet is designed with patented acoustic damping technology and is one of the quietest sources of air delivered by any consumer appliance. The BedJet is far quieter than any bedroom window fan or air conditioner when used on typical settings of low and medium (measured at 38dB to 39dB).

The noise is a very soothing background white noise and similar to your household HVAC register. When installed in its natural home under the bed, the following are dB sound measurements take from the pillow:

  • Measured Ambient Room Noise (BedJet off): 37dB
  • BedJet Cool, 50% (most typical highest setting for all night cooling): 38dB
  • BedJet Cool, 100% (unlikely to be used other than short bursts): 42dB

There is No Freon or Water Involved with the BedJet

Unlike portable air conditioning units, there is no Freon or compressor involved with the BedJet. Unlike water-based bed cooling solutions you might find in mattress toppers or pads, the BedJet is entirely air-based.

That means no messy clean-ups, leaking, condensation, dripping or time-consuming maintenance to worry about. The BedJet’s air filter easily pops out—you can clean it quickly by running it under cold water, and popping it back in. Most BedJet owners was their filters every 6-8 weeks or so, and it only takes them just a few seconds.

BedJet is Not a Replacement for Having Zero Air Conditioning in Rooms Over 79°F

We mentioned this above and we’ve made sure to include this message on all BedJet unit product descriptions: The BedJet is not meant to replace air conditioning in extreme heat bedrooms. If your bedroom air temperature is regularly over 79°F—like a bedroom on a super hot night in Arizona or humid Florida—the extreme heat will overwhelm BedJet’s forced air cooling methods. We’d definitely recommend investing in some air conditioning first!

Save on Home Cooling and Heating Costs

Even if you do live in a hot environment that requires an air conditioner for comfortable sleep, you can still use BedJet as a supplement to cut down on air conditioner use and save on your home energy costs.

Typical BedJet owners find they can raise their AC thermostat by anywhere from 2-4 degrees and still stay just as comfortable—that saves money! Plus, the BedJet heats too. Why heat your entire home at night when all you to be toasty is your bed? According to the Department of Energy, for every degree you lower the thermostat, you save 4% on your utility bills.

How did I live without this?

I have watched my wife suffer with menopause hot flashes for years. Finally I started looking at what I could buy to help her at night. This system is so awesome I am going to order one for my side of the bed. Works great on cool and now that we are in winter the warming is also incredible!
